My Christmas greeting is a big Thank You to you, my readers, for motivating me to search for new and compelling topics each week, for keeping me on my toes, and staying conscious in my writing. I value your thoughtful comments, and occasional challenges.
You always let me know when I have piqued your interest, or inspired you, or expressed views that are different from yours. Thank you for your directness and honesty!
I started my 2016 writing immersed in the whirlwind of the American election, when a new government had taken hold, and frightened us all with its invective. And I got right into it too, as you can see from those January posts—but eventually I tried to move away from that focus, and present a more optimistic world view.
Some weeks I succeeded, and some weeks I didn’t, but I do know that as a result, I grew in my writing—hearing from you was a crucial part of that. You gave me the courage to move past my natural instinct to be cautious, and dig in to some contentious issues.
My real pleasure, though, came from remembering the past, and writing about it. I’m amazed at your interest in these stories, and especially liked to hear that you had similar experiences. So I’ll continue to explore that thread.
Now, so close to Christmas, a season steeped in nostalgia, I find that I’m looking into the past again, wondering about its importance, and imagining a different future.
Here is a beautiful quote by an author who I can identify only with a name, since I can find no discernible history.
I’m including her words, which I love so much:
“Christmas… that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance — a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.”
Augusta E. Rundel
Beautiful quotation! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I look forward to another year of posts!

Christmas for us started last night with the first visitor bringing gifts and the visitors continue. The children have now gone visiting leaving me to be the watchman at home!
A merry Christmas to you and all members of your family.
For us, Christmas Eve (last night) is the start of the holidays, with families and friends gathering to have a drink and a little food. Going home, people might take a little drive around to see the lights in yards and in the city. The bustle of shopping has finally died down, and people are only concerned with spending time with each other. Traditions are similar in many cultures, I find! Enjoy the festivities, Rummuser!
