A Shiny New Year!

2023 already! How did that happen so suddenly? I must have been dozing at the switch. But here it is, ready or not—I’ll just have to brace myself to do it again! I’m not complaining. I love the process of reflecting on the past year and considering some resolutions for the year ahead.

To help inspire you in 2023, I’ve scoured the internet for some ‘Happy New Years’ quotes and toasts which might resonate with you. They did not originate with me. I admit I’ve purloined them from the ideas of other people. But most of them are universal and repeated in real-life situations to mark important events and close relationships, so I feel confident in using them here.

Before you head to that New Year’s party or New Years’ dinner with your loved ones, why not sit down and read these quotes about life, love, and starting over. They are wise, encouraging, and inspirational. You'll be amazed at the power these simple quotes can hold. They can enhance your holiday mood and prepare you for the miraculous unfolding of a New Year.

For example, Nido Qubein, a Lebanese American businessman and motivational speaker says, “Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go. They merely determine where you start.”

Similarly, this quote from Michael Altshuler, a former business owner and motivational speaker, reminds you that you’re in charge of your own destiny: “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.”

  1. Your post resonated with me, Diane. I’ve been reading a New York Times’ piece–a selection of the best advice people have received (with a connection to using such wisdom for 2023). You have a lot of great advice, resolution fodder and such here, but this one’s for the inevitable difficult moments: “I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days is 100 percent, and that’s pretty good.” — Hudson, San Diego. A great perspective, I think. Happy 2023!
